When I connected with Arianna over a call for her wedding, I knew her day would be something special. Her care, love and her full of spirit personality was evident from the start. I really love that. People you can just feel through the phone. They laugh, they ask questions, they sound excited. Thats a big part of what lights my fire for wedding photography. I want to get to know you, to see you and to be there to tell the story of your wedding honestly and thoughtfully.
Arianna and her fiancee Jamie were planning their wedding for Brown's Bay Resort in Campbell River. It was the first time I had photographed a wedding there and it was so special. Couples often ask about my experience at a venue and while it's important, there's something to be said for a brand-new-to-me location. I don't need to have been there 100 times to show up and know what to do. Seeking the best spots, finding the good light and researching the space is all part of my job. Creativity in the moment is also what takes a wedding gallery from good- to great. Not a series of repeatable actions but being there, boots on the ground, present in YOUR day.
When I arrived at the bridal suite, everyone was on the balcony looking out into the ocean and I knew something was going on. I hurried over and saw that out in the distance there was a pod of orcas crossing the resort. I quickly snapped on my longest lens and grabbed a few shots of this magical, once in a lifetime experience.
From there it was time for getting ready, the final touches on hair and makeup, dresses on and a few cheers. Over on the guys side, they were having just as great of a time. Excited, nervous energy and of course- more cheers happening over there as well.
Getting ready photos really help set the tone for the day. It's where I start noticing the energy, the relationships, dynamics and flow of the day. This crew? They were ready to have some fun. Big smiles, belly laughs and a laidback, here for the party attitude.
Their ceremony had a beautiful oceanfront setting, just steps from their reception. More quiet, excitable energy and sweet vows with a few laughs, it was a lovely way to say "I-do".
The priority for these two post ceremony, was getting the party started! We made quick work of wedding party and couples portraits so they could change and head off to their reception to join their friends and family
As you would imagine, these two had a super fun reception. There was so much love and energy, everyone just dedicated to having the best time. I don't think I'll say too much, I'll just let the photos speak for themselves.
