Vancouver Island really has it all

I mean truly, what more could you ask for? Stunning forests, magnificent ocean views, epic mountain ranges, beautiful lakes, expansive farmland. The list could go on and on but truly, we are so blessed with this coast. Speaking of beautiful places on this island, Jordan & Sidney planned an incredible day that was breathtaking and so unique to them on beautiful Lake Cowichan.

Taking place on family owned lake front properties, this day was meticulously planned and really just so perfect. Getting to know these two, I knew we were going to have a fun heartfelt day with many very special moments and indeed- they did! I thoroughly enjoyed this sunny wedding day and being there to capture the best memories for the lovely bride & groom.

The day started out with each of them getting ready at two separate family owned lake front spots. They were minutes away from each other which meant I was able to easily capture both sides getting ready. It's always such a vibe/energy switch going from the brides getting ready to the grooms getting ready. As a photographer, I really sink my teeth into the feelings of those around me and the energy present to ensure I can match the pace of the day and be the photographer they need me to be. I loved capturing both sides of the wedding party, just see for yourself!

Opting for a first look, we went down to the lawn where they were planning to have their ceremony. It was a bright, blue bird sky day and we wanted to make use of the best light and keep cool so we went to where the shade was and it happened to be perfect because the stunning lake and amazingly kept gardens were there for a back drop!

It was also important to them to include their dog in portraits which we totally made happen! I've said it before, if you want to have photos with your dog on your wedding day- I've totally got you! From there we had wedding party photos before preparing for the ceremony! It was beautiful, light hearted and relaxed. I'm sure the nerves were there, but everyone was having fun!

Then it was time for the ceremony!!! These two had a special surprise planned for their guests. The groom & groomsmen were jet boating into the ceremony! It was such a fun and epic entrance. The ceremony went off without a hitch and the views were just impeccable. They couldn't have asked for better weather. All together, the day was off to an amazing start.

After the ceremony it was time to start family portraits! We had many combinations of their lovely large family and had many laughs and hugs getting these images in! Since we had captured portraits and their wedding party prior to the ceremony they were then free to join cocktail hour before their reception began. The light was getting so warm and lovely so I grabbed the bride for a few more portraits and then it was time for dinner! Their meal was catered by the incredible team at Mensch, seriously- their food it outstanding! Dinner time is one of the rare times throughout the day that I sit down and it's always a great time to soak it all in. I usually find a quiet spot to take a short break and inhale my food, set my cameras down for a minute and check in with my family. This pause is usually so necessary at this time in the day after being on my feet (usually in the heat) for hours. Then I am all refreshed and ready to go for speeches, first dances, cake cutting and sunset photos!

These two wanted another surprise for their guests (how fun) and had a gelato truck on site to serve up dessert after dinner! They wanted to get some photos with the gelato truck so post sunset photos, they were first in line for ice cream and a few captures :)

This day was a total vibe, success, and so.much.fun. Have I mentioned I LOVE what I do?
